Can you rent a steam cleaner from the grocery store and perform periodic maintenance cleaning yourself? Most of our customers who have tried this have come to the same simple conclusion: “Never again.” In fact, Shaw Industries recommends that “it is to your advantage to use professional cleaners because their experience enables them to do a better job than you can do yourself. Their equipment has more extraction power than rental units available to individuals, and the carpet should dry more quickly. True professionals also understand the equipment, know the proper cleaning agents for the situation at hand, and recognize the differences in fibers and carpet construction.” |

Not only does our powerful extraction capability facilitate faster drying time, but it also minimizes the residue left behind by most rental units. Without proper extraction (i.e. vacuum) capability, “sticky” cleaning agents will remain in the carpet fibers. This residue will likely attract more soil over time. How many times have you heard someone say, “My carpets looked great for a few weeks after they were cleaned, but then they started looking dirtier than ever.” Now you know why. |

What about “Dry Cleaning” Carpets?
As drapery cleaners, Longshore understands the value of, and appropriate applications for dry cleaning. Dry cleaning is the appropriate cleaning method for fabrics such as silk, linen, moiré, and many other fine fabrics that are commonly used in custom draperies and some high-end upholstery. However, for carpets and rugs, we have found that steam cleaning is by far the most effective approach.
The largest carpet manufactures in the world recommend hot water extraction (steam) cleaning for their products. Longshore Services agrees. If you have additional questions, please feel free to contact us.
